7 Easy Ways to Build Your Newsletter Opt-in List

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Give them a reason for giving up their email address - Saying "join my mailing list!" alone won’t do it. With rampant spam and identity theft on the rise, customers now treat their contact information as sacred (and they should!). They’re immediately asking themselves, "what will I get in return?" and "Is this something I’m really interested in?"

They want to know how you’ll be using their contact information as well, so tell them up front if you plan to be sharing it or using it for alternative marketing beyond what you’ve said on the opt-in form.

Make the offer valuable - but don’t overdo it. You shouldn’t have to bribe your customers to sign up for your newsletter by offering too many choices (such as free reports) all at once. One idea would be to show them a sample newsletter or detail what they can expect once they’ve signed up and received the item they were originally interested in.

Get the word out - Search for newsletter directories and add yours if appropriate. Let people know that they can use your newsletter content on their own website as long as you are credited with your name and a link back to your website.

Add your brand - Over time, if you consistently have good, relevant information, your visitors will begin to remember your name and your logo or website name. Use this information to your advantage and brand your e-mail newsletter with a kind of "letterhead" using your logo and domain name.

Add a "Member’s Only" area. This is where newsletter subscribers can go to get back-issues or valuable "member only" bonuses as a result of signing up for your newsletter. Make it free to subscribe and watch your opt-in rate soar! You can do this easily through a professional website designer if you’re unsure how to add this functionality to your pages.

Don’t overuse images - In fact, avoid using them where you can (with the exception of the letterhead mentioned in point #4). Images trigger spam filters and are often blocked in today’s e-mail software program, so even if you spent hours stressing over which photos were used - chances are a good percentage of your visitors won’t see them, and won’t enable the image option in their emails just to see what they’re missing.

Meet the challenge - head on. As you get subscribers, you may also get e-mails containing a "challenge response". This is a rather new way of blocking spam and requires you to go to a web page and enter a special code to verify that you really want to contact the person.

While it might seem like an extra step or going out of your way to do, doing so shows that you appreciate the user’s need to block spam, and that by taking this extra step, you’re proving that you’re not in the "spam" league, and your emails will be much more welcomed.

When used together, these seven tips can help you grow your mailing list in a relatively short amount of time with the least amount of stress. Good luck!

How to Build a List of Eager Subscribers

How To Build A List Of Eager Subscribers

Every online business provides great service to generate satisfaction among their customers. As each and every customer receives satisfaction over their products or the services they get, there is a great chance that they will become a return customer and buy again. Better yet, they will recommend you to other people that could generate more business for you and your site.

As more traffic is driven to your site, you can entice many of them to subscribe to your mailing list or opt-in list. This is a list where in website visitors agree to be sent promotional materials such as newsletters, catalogs and such that could keep them updated about your site or the niche of your site. These promotional materials are sent via e-mail to the members of the list in different time intervals.

When using e-mail as the media of your marketing and advertisements, you eliminate the need for high costs. Email is free and if you can manage to make your own promotional advertisements you can also save a bundle there. With an opt-in subscribers list, you are pretty sure that what you are sending out is received, viewed and read by the subscribers and not simply being deleted. They have signed up for service and have consented in receiving it.

This means that there are constant reminders to your subscribers about all your products, new products and services as well as any promotions and special deals you are having. There is also the chance that they can be forwarded to other potential customers as they tell their friends and families about you and your site.

Of course you should be also aware that a subscriber may unsubscribe when they feel that they are not getting what they want or expected. Make sure that they are satisfied with your opt-in marketing strategies and keep them excited in receiving your newsletters and catalogs. Here are some tips that can help you build a list of eager subscribers.

Make your promotional materials interesting and fun. Try to use a little creativity but not too over artsy. Build around what your product or service is about. For example; if you are selling car parts, put some pictures of what is new in the auto parts world, a new wing door possibly that can fit any car and make it look like a Lamborghini.

Try to research what people are looking for, these way, you stay one step ahead of them all the time and you will be their bearer of new tidings. They will be eager to receive what you are sending them because they new you always have fresh and new things to share with them.

Write good articles that can be very informational but light at the same time. If your subscribers enjoy your articles, they will go to your site by clicking the links that you will be putting on your newsletter to read some more. You can provide articles that can connect to many people. Be diverse in your articles. Put something humorous, then put something informational, then put something that has both.

Are you wary about this because you don’t like writing? No problem, there are many professional and experienced article writers that   can do the job for you for minimal fees. They know what they are doing and can provide the need that you have for your newsletters, the money that you pay for your articles are going to be met by the many sign-ups and the potential profit from the sales that you will get.

Create and send an E-book to your customers about anything that is related to your business or site. Use your knowledge and expertise in the field you have chosen to help other people who are similarly interested. Offer this e-book for free. You can write about anything informational and helpful to your subscribers. For example; you can do manuals and guides in so many things. This e-book could be used as a reference for many people.

Share this e-book with everyone, even other sites; just make sure that they don’t change the links in the e-book that will lead people to your site. If you want, you can always get some people to write it for you just like your articles. Your investment once again will be covered by the great marketing this will generate.

Add e-coupons in your newsletters that will help them avail to special discounts. Put a control number in your e-coupon so that they can only be used once. When people get discounts that can be found in your newsletters, they will be eager to receive your newsletter in anticipation of what you are promoting next.

If your subscribers can get benefits from your newsletters, they will be very eager to receive them. Just don’t flood your mailing list with mails so that you don’t annoy your subscribers. For more free info click here

Subscribe Instead of Buy

Monday, August 24th, 2009
It seems everyone nowadays has an online store. Yet all of their marketing efforts and calls to action all point to the user actually buying something. Sure, it’d be great if every one of your users actually bought something from your store but the harsh reality is that they won’t.

Think of it this way - how many times have you walked into a store, had a look around and walked out? I’m sure you’re already out of fingers just trying to count the times! My point is that the majority of users may be interested in your products but aren’t ready to take the plunge and actually buy. So, why should we force them?

It’s important that we all understand how fantastic e-newsletter subscriptions truly are. They are in fact considered to be conversions by most web gurus, yet many of us still ignore their importance and focus on our earnings rather than the bigger picture.

The fact is that each of these e-newsletter subscribers has now willingly agreed to be bombarded with branded emails, online marketing campaigns and more! Sure, this sounds a little unnerving when you put it like that, but you’ve now secured a way to put your business in front of yet another person’s face at least once a month and that tidbit of exposure is not only free – it’s priceless.

If you’re still wondering how you’re actually going to earn something from an e-newsletter subscription - stop thinking! The answer is right in front of you. How many times would you receive a brochure from a store that stocks everything you love until you actually decide to go and buy something from there? I’m sure it’d only take a few issues until something caught your eye. The same rule can be applied here. It’s all a matter of time.

So, stop worrying about sales and start pushing for e-newsletter subscriptions. They are considered sales leads in many circles and for good reason. Now it’s time to change your marketing strategy and the first stepping stone is to implement AIDA on the World Wide Web. Remember, sales are great but subscriptions are conversions too.

How To Use Ebay To Build Your List Of Subscribers

Monday, August 24th, 2009
“The money’s in the list” is a phrase often quoted by internet marketers, but for good reason. If you don’t have a way of collecting email addresses through an opt-in form on your site, then you are leaving a lot of money on the table.

When people visit your website and leave without buying anything, you may never get the chance to sell to them again if they don’t come back to your site. However, if people opt in to receive more information from you through occasional emails, then you can send follow-up messages, and dramatically increase your chances of making a sale in the future.

There are many ways of building a list, but in this article I want to focus on a strategy often overlooked by the majority of marketers, and that’s through Ebay. When you see listings for $0.01, there’s a good chance the seller is using backend sales tactics or trying to encourage you to join their newsletter, otherwise they would be losing money for every sale, due to Ebay’s fees being higher than the sales price.

A good way of generating a lot of sales, and therefore potential subscribers is to get your hands on some ebooks which offer resale rights, and listing them on Ebay. There are numerous sites where you can pick them up, often for free. If not, there are membership sites, where for a one-off fee you can get access to hundreds of ebooks all with resellers rights, or you could of course buy one of these ebooks offering resellers rights on Ebay, often at a ridiculously low price, then resell it yourself.

Unfortunately, you won’t get rich just from selling many of these ebooks on Ebay alone, because the sellers have forced the prices down to very low levels. However, you can benefit very nicely financially from persuading the buyer of your ebook to subscribe to your newsletter or ezine.

It’s estimated that every subscriber in your list is worth $1 per month, so if you had 1000 subscribers, you could expect, on average, to earn $1000 per month. This figure obviously varies a lot depending on your sales copy, and the quality and credibility of your mailings, but even so it’s easy to see why having your own list is potentially very lucrative.

The key is to offer on your main site several quality free bonuses to each new subscriber that opts in to receive your newsletter. Then when a buyer buys an ebook from you, and you send them the email with the download link included, you can upsell your newsletter by mentioning the further free bonuses they could receive on top of the ebook they’ve just purchased, and including the link to your main site where the opt in form is located.

I’ve had great success doing this, because the majority of people, myself included, love freebies, and the buyer will be more than happy to receive extra free ebooks, on top of their original purchase, just for filling out a simple form.

The only thing to bear in mind is that the sale price of your ebook should cover any Ebay fees, although there’s nothing stopping you from offering it for $0.01 just to hopefully guarantee a sale. You will lose money on every sale, but it all depends on how much each subscriber is worth to you. If you have a top-quality newsletter or ezine with hardly any unsubscribe requests, then it may be worth doing because you are likely to make any minimal losses back many times over in the future.
